He's my only boy. I am a beginner at this whole wooden car thing. So it he. He got really excited and patterned that block of wood after an object in his favorite game, Minecraft. He designed, painted and built that car pretty much on his own. Even dad allowed him to do what he wanted, not what dad knew would win. Winning is NOT everything but sometimes I wonder if that greed is a bit easier to swallow than the rejection of losing EVERY. SINGLE. RACE!!!
Because he did. And he could only hold the brave face for a few minutes before his heart broke. Into a million pieces.
And then, seeing him from afar, I slowly made my way to his side and then, only then, did he let the tears fall on my shoulder.
And then my heart shattered too. My only son, losing.
But he got up, brushed himself off, threw those tears to the floor and took his award for best camouflaged car.
I was so very proud.
Now, maybe if we could get around to giving this guy a haircut, we'd be real winners!
