It's the most wonderful time of the year....

...unless you are trying to fit an unusually large tree through a small door!

Call me a humbug but my favorite day of the year (other than my birthday) is putting away all the Christmas decorations. I love vacuuming up every last tree needle and throwing what little decorations I have into totes to rot for another year. I love searching the house for every last ornament that was taken from the tree and ridding my house of anything festive and cheery.

Let's just say, I have an issue with uniformity, control and order.

I was in a delightful mood today as I dusted the cobwebs from the red and green rubbermaid's and put everything neatly away. That is until Rob and I tried to scrape all greenery from the trunk of our Griswold Christmas tree. It doesn't help that we were trying to push it out of the house against the grain of the limbs. We had to cut off several branches and tear part of our door molding off in the process. My leg looked like I was attacked by a porcupine as dead, sharp needles lodged there in. It was quite hilarious and it left a wake of destruction in its path. It took us a good long while to vacuum all that up. There was more tree on the floor than outside after all was said and done.

I welcome a new year of change, progression, opportunity and growth. We are lucky to have the fireworks king live in our very culdesac and we were treated to an overhead fireworks display that left carnage in our front yard. It was mind blowing.

Hola fellow Washingtonians! We got your Christmas card and noticed that we live in the same state again...though you live with the liberals and we live with the nice people. Tell 'Rob' that I miss his touch.

Sorry about the tree destruction. When I was growing up we had huge trees too. But my dad would light a fire in the fireplace...stick in the top of the tree while the rest was lying on the hearth and living room floor (still attached)...and he'd slowly feed it in. Crazy? Ya.
I get a little sad when I look at my fireplace now...it's so bare, no stockings, no sparkly be Merry and Bright signs. Just a dumb old fireplace I couldn't even stick a tree in to burn cuz it's gas.

We are so alike...it's insane my dear. I too LOVE taking the decorations down when all the festivities are over. It's totally a control issue.

Hey There Sweetie..
My family gets so mad at me. Usually I like to start packing up later on Christmas day.! I always use the excuse of the tree being so dry that I am afraid of fires. :-).... It really is an awesome way to start the new year. Miss ya

SO glad we got a fake tree this year! ha ha! The clean up does not look fun, but it was sure pretty in your front room in all it's glory!

yes, yes! I love taking the decorations down. It feels so clean and orderly again, like I have my life back. HILARIOUS about your tree. Our vacuum died sucking our needles this year (Christmas DAY - that's Derek's issue, though - not mine). Never fear, though - we pulled the shop vac in to finish the job. What a beautiful feeling. :)
