These are done too thanks to a lovely sunny day and a rested husband with a healthy back because he hasn't carried 4 children in his belly for a total of 36 months making his strength like that of a newborn kitten.
(Sheesh, maybe I need to calm down. I think I am just tired. Tired of being tired.)
Let's just say I stayed inside and made laps around the 7" (not 14" like last year) tree.
Then the master must sit back and gaze at his work. If I did this at every beautifully done task, I would still be standing in the door frame of my very first clean bathroom.
You know how I am such a bah humbug about decorating for Christmas? Especially the tree? Well, I think there was a bit of a revelation this year. The moment Rob said the most beautiful words I think I have ever heard, I knew why my moods were always grinch-like.
"I am thinking tree lot this year."
What? No trapsing through the mountain side for the tree that doesn't exist just to save $5 by using a permit? No bundling the kids up and driving for 5 hours?
Then I called him and ask if I should just go down and pick one out before he gets home and he says I should have already. I start realizing that he has given up control. I can decorate it however I want, get the size I want, and put it where I want.
"H#!*% yah!" I am just a teeny-tiny control freak.
I went down that very day with all four kids, walked right up to Big Red Barn Trees and told them I wanted one of their $18 Douglas'. Bob walked me down the isle, showed me one and I took it on the spot. Just like the perfect wedding dress, it was the first one I tried on.
That's the one. No more looking required. I'm sure. The end.
Rob drives in, Bob throws it in the truck, we all drive home, Christmas tree hunting done. 20 minutes and my adrenaline is pumpin'.
I am talking of a winter wonderland and all the details of this frosty white tree. I ask Rob's opinion and he is so excited that I am excited, for once, that I could be talking about decorating it with Barbies and he wouldn't care. Doesn't take much to make that man happy. Just a little excitement to his surprise and you're his new best friend.
Christmas decorations for 2010...check.
