GC Jars

Ah, Conference!

That's a tough one.  Kids, boredom, sitting quietly, it's a lot.  Sitting in front of the television for 8 hours over the weekend is a lot for a well-seasoned adult, let alone children on a Saturday.

So, thanks to pinterest, the General Conference Candy Jars took a spot on the banister for the first hour of conference.

Anytime a child heard one of the words said, they would repeat the word out loud and Eden would mark who said it first on a chart.  Then, after the speaker, they were allowed to collect their reward.  It worked okay until the fighting over who said it first began, the repeating got louder and then some Red Vines were stolen while I went to put a baby down for a nap and it was all over by the end of hour one.  I still have some perfecting to do but I think it could work on a regular basis.

It did get me this for a sweet 60 minutes.

We did notice that some words (blessings, gospel) were NEVER said so that jar was untouched but others were used a lot.  Here are some more ideas if you choose to try this for conference:

atonement
spirit
missionary
heaven
power
priesthood
service
friend
eternal
sacrifice
hope
conference
home
world
redeemer
prophet
life
repent

We have done this for years in a simpler format. Jesus Jelly Beans. We have the kids tell us every form of Jesus (Savior, Christ, Son, Etc.) and put that list by the bowl of Jelly Beans. Every time they hear it, they get a jelly bean. It works really well for about 2 sessions!
