1 for the money, 2 for the show

The Pie Contest Results:
Eden made the request to enter the pie contest with me this year since they have a 17 & under category and I thought it would be a fun event we could do together. I would assume that these are the moments that instill a love of cooking early on.

She really did do most of it herself.

I chose a peach blackberry combo and hers was quadruple berry. (Rasp, Straw, Blue and Black)

She chose the "criss cross" design also known as lattice top and manipulated that dough to look just right.

Eden's

I chose to top it with individual circles this time. I found that I actually prefer this method. It leaves a lot of room for mistakes and it creates a natural vent inbetween all the circles.

This is what happens when you make pies. Your kitchen implodes.

There were 9 entrants. Three in the 17 & under, four in the 18-49, and two in the 50 & up categories.

As they were announcing the youth category winners, 3rd place was called and then 2nd place and the did not mention Eden's name for either. We knew she had won and so when they said her name, it was a very exciting moment. A cute boy pinned the ribbon on her and handed her an envelope with $25 in market bucks.

Since last year, I won by default since I was the only entrant, I begged some friends and neighbors to try their hand and my neighbor and friend, Lori took home 3rd place. It was so fun to see her win.
I was pleased to be awarded 1st place again for the second year in a row. I found it interesting that the winners this year were Lori in 3rd place with a peach cherry, 3nd place went to my friend Michelle with a peach raspberry and then my peach blackberry pie. All peach based. Good to know!

All the winners.
The mother & daughter blue ribbon winners.

Then, because the kids were wasting away to nothing, I promptly spent $5 of market bucks on these cupcake cones.

I love to enter these things because the odds are really good that I can win when there are so few participants. I keep telling people, you can't win if you don't participate. And you can't become good at something if you don't practice. Validation doesn't hurt though either!

Next year I am going for a 3-peat!
