555 Challenge COMPLETE!!!
(754 actually )
I did it! I completed my goal! I crossed that finish line on Saturday and felt very satisfied with my journey. I set out to get through the summer with a continuous goal: run five 5ks in 5 months. (I actually did 7 of them in 4 months due to a late start and a few extra runs I wasn't counting toward my goal.) As long as I was moving toward a 5k every month, I knew I would stay on track with my exercise goals.
I have to tell you...this was so much fun. I loved every minute of those races, the excitement behind each one and now, completing them! I highly recommend this program for the beginner runner. It isn't too much to train for but makes you feel accomplished without the strain on your body physically and mentally as a marathon does. It was fun and I have this t-shirt wardrobe and stash of bibs to show for it. They are my trophies. I am considering a quilt!!
On Thursday, I ran 3 miles to train, then went for a 17 mile bike ride on Friday and then Friday night I got 4 hours of sleep after going to bed at 3am. Needless to say, my legs and body were tired so my last race was sluggish. I felt heavy, overheated and frustrated and I kept my promise of never losing to my previous time by 7 seconds again. Instead I lost by 47! I keep my promises.
I didn't prepare well for this one and it showed.
