One of my fondest childhood memories is sitting on the side of Hwy 3, behind a square card table, selling homemade cinnamon rolls, pies and cookies at our family bake sale. We had giant sandwich board signs 500 feet before the sale on either side of the hwy to let our neighbors know not to miss my mother's culinary skills. She would be up in the early hours of the morning cranking out fresh cinnamon rolls to be sold for 35 cents each. I loved making money and not having to do anything but when I had Eden, I paid my mom back by giving birth to my own little entrepreneur that asks me on a daily basis if she can sell something. She has tried, rocks, minerals, stuffed animals, leaves, popcorn, books and admission to her own rock concert. For a time, I dreaded the rejection that would enevitable come her way but we have learned a lot and now we are getting the hang of the supply and demand concept. We understand that you will make more money by asking for less and so we are picking seasonal, simple and solid sale items and learning value lessons in saving, supply and satisfaction in the process.
Eden. My child. A business woman at heart.
December 2010 - Candy Canes 5₵
Summer 2011 - Otter Pops 10₵
And so naturally, she talked grandma T into making cookies so that she could sell them around my home town while on our vacation. They sold like hotcakes. We drove around to family and friends and we sold 17 cookies in about 30 minutes. Never mind the fact that it took us about 5 hours to make them in the 95 degree kitchen.
Summer 2011 - Giant Cookies $1.00

Making wonderful memories one cookie, candy cane and otter pop at a time.

I thought about using Eden as an example in my talk on Sunday. You are definitely a mom who is a great example of letting your kiddos have opportunities to develop their talents -- Pie contest now added to the list :)
Those were some of the most delicious cookies, Eden! Those toffee caramel or whatever ones were magnificent...if you ever want to share the recipe :)
