REWIND - Turkey Trot (The "12-12-12" Race)

November 12, 2011

It was my wish to continue running 5k's throughout the 2011 year and then as soon as I got pregnant, I lost all momentum.  I had joined my second Biggest Loser Challenge in September and a week later with the prego news, was really struggling with whether or not to stick with it.  It really came down to two things: 1) not being a quitter, no matter the excuse and 2) staying in it to support my team for the eventual win.

In the last week, to earn 50 points, we were required to sign up for a race and even though I didn't know how my body would take it, I signed up for the Snoqualmie Turkey Trot.  I went by myself almost in a meditative state.  I truly enjoy "competing" in those races alone.  It is nice to have someone cheering you on at the finish but there is something far more amazing about finishing that race for no one but yourself.

I was slow but it was very therapeutic to run at that speed.  No expectations, no goals but to finish with a million reasons why I didn't have to be there.  But I did it anyway.

Once I crunched the numbers, I deemed it my 12-12-12 race.  I ran that race on the 12th being 12-weeks pregnant and pulled out an almost perfect 12-minute mile.

I always look like I am in a lot of pain when I run but that just happens to be my running face.  I refuse to smile when I see a photographer...that just isn't realistic.
