Fun Run with the FAT People

Our ward chose to have a ward activity 2K Fun Run. We expected it to be a nice day where...
  1. We gather
  2. We walk or run with our families
  3. We win ribbons
  4. We eat healthy snacks
  5. We laugh
  6. We go home

In our case, it went something like this...

  1. Get excited about going
  2. Get in our custom shirts (more on that later)
  3. Arrive at church on time
  4. Everyone wants to eat first
  5. We try to start
  6. Indy throws a fit, won't leave sidewalk
  7. I go on with the girls
  8. We walk as fast as molasses
  9. Rob and Indy come 45 minutes later
  10. Eden, Olivia and I are second to last
  11. Olivia wants to be carried
  12. Olivia throws a fit, won't move
  13. Along comes some friends that arrived 20 minutes late
  14. They offer a spot open in their stroller
  15. Olivia catches a ride
  16. We make it to the half way mark and turn around
  17. Olivia wants out
  18. Olivia won't walk, wants to be carried
  19. We meet Rob and Indy on the way back
  20. They've managed to make it a ways down the road
  21. Indy's still crying
  22. We slowly walk back in dead last
  23. We make it to the bridge
  24. Everyone quits
  25. I run the 1/2 mile back to the church
  26. Grab a banana
  27. Grab ribbons for the kids ("participation only" because I didn't think they deserved better)
  28. Talk to everyone who realizes we came in last
  29. Get the car
  30. Pick up family
  31. Go home
  32. Throw Indy in bed screaming
  33. He takes a nap
  34. Rob and I sit in the sun and sigh and discuss how on a scale of 1-10 on the fun meter, kids score a negative 65.

The highlights of the day were the t-shirts we made to represent out family as a team (a very disfunctional team) and the unbelievably gorgeous weather. The weather was heaven, my kids' attitudes were not. Eden was fine, a little worn out considering the 1 mile promise turned out to be 3 miles without us knowing about it. I would have surely brought a stroller for my 2 year old if I had known. Indy did horribly for some reason, I have never seen him so impossible and Olivia had her fits but she is only 2 after all.

I bought 99 cent orange shirts at Goodwill this week and ironed "FAT" to the front and our slogan on the back..."Fear the Atwood Team". They got a lot of conversation but as far as fearing us...wow, were we ever wrong. Dead last?! Can you believe it? It seems to be a theme when we participate in races. (The only downside is that throughout the day I had a lot of people staring at my chest and looking a little confused by my honesty if they didn't see the back.)

Enjoy the pics.

Our shirts.

First starting out, little did we know.

Happy Olivia early in the walk.

Awwww, sisters, enjoying the little walk together.

Just the girls...oh what fun this will be.

The melt down starts and she is not moving.

Indy on the way back after crying for 45 minutes.

The melt down continues and Olivia is left in the dust since there is no one left to kidnap her.

We finally have no choice but to carry her.

And this is where our family picture was supposed to go when we finished but you know how that went. Good times, good times. I am sure we will look back fondly and laugh. Maybe when their kids are crying and we are leaving because we are the grandparents.

Oh, so cute, so cute. I love the shirts. Like you said, you'll look back on this, years later, and get a good laugh out of it all. At least you made some memories :)

Thanks for the laughs. I laugh because I have so been there with my kids. An idea sounds so good until we try and do it. I felt that way after our fiasco up to Idaho for Easter. You're shirts were creative though! :o)
