My Birthday Week

It is a well known fact that I don't let people forget my birthday. I don't go as far as telling random strangers nor do I mention it in casual conversation but I am not one of those who will keep my mouth shut hoping my husband will pretend he forgot and surprise me.

Nope, not me.

I have learned to use my birthday as an excuse for everything and now I make it my birthday week instead. "I'm not turning off the light, it's my birthday week." "I'm going to drink straight from the milk jug, it's my birthday week." "You brush the kids' teeth tonight, it's my birthday week."

So, just so you all know, it is my birthday this Friday...and it is my first 29th birthday! I am not telling you this so you will shower me with gifts and calls, but just to get the knowledge out there. Mark it on your calendars, log it into your memory, just make sure you know that June 27 is Rachel's day.

MONDAY-I started off this week with a trip to the hair salon for a trim that I paid too much for. I didn't get near enough shampoo time for my money. I should have mentioned my birthday was this Friday and maybe they would have given me a discount.

TUESDAY-I received my first gift and it was from my amazing mother-in-law. I luckily married into wonderful in-laws and upon mentioning my only gift wish for my birthday, I was graced with a very practical, yet very exciting, Dirt Devil Handheld Vacuum, also known as the "Kone". I called her up and proceeded to scream with gratitude. You know you have reached adulthood when all you want are things that help you keep your house clean. I reached adulthood pretty much when I went off to college and it has gone downhill from there. (One Christmas I received three cookie cooling racks from my husband and it is one of the sweetest gestures in my memory and then in Texas, I came across my favorite wooden spoon at a grocery store and I cleaned them out so I could gift it to others. Sad.)

Even Indy got into the spirit of things by being a kone as well.

WEDNESDAY-Today I am off to the ever popular dentist so that he can jab my face with giant needles and hollow out my tooth out with an oil drill. Not my kind of party but I guess he is giving me the gift of eating and in my book, there just isn't a more wonderful thing in the world. Ohhhhhhh.....foooood.

Stay tuned for the rest of my birthday week.

I will move onto the birthday month idea when I am older and wiser, like when I turn 30.

Pure brain child!! I like the concept of a birthday week. Do you think we could make it work for mother's day as well? I'm all for "Mother's Day week!" Does that Kone thing actually work good? I've always wondered.
